As some of you on here know, I'm having problems with my battery. When I first bought the bike it had been in storage for a while and the battery was dead. So I charged the battery and after a few days the battery was dead again so I went out and bought a new battery. The new battery worked great and then I put my bike into storage for the winter. I disconnected the negative side while it was in storage and every 5-6 days or so I reconnected the battery and let the bike run for a while. Well when I moved here I stored my bike at Gleno's house and when I went to take it home the battery was dead. Gleno had me put his battery tender on it and its ran great since then until yesterday when I went out to start it and it was dead again. I jumped the bike and rode it around for a while, put it back in the garage and tryed to start it again and it was dead. My question is, do I go buy a battery tender and keep the battery I have now or do I just get a new battery?

Well Dave your question is a valid one, but I think Bucks problem is knowing when the system is charging. Most charging systems are dormant until 3K+ rpm's; below that they are not charging. So just starting a bike occasionally is not the answer. You need to hold the throttle at an adequete point to make a difference. Here is a ? for you; Where/when did you buy that battery, it may be under warranty... But all in all I think you will def need a new battery, and you need a battery tender of some sort, it is a must have.

BUT; do not discount what dave asked you. You may want to check the system to make sure that is not the culprit. Please drive to the 3rd window....

Jerry is right on the money you need to get a new battery AND a battery tender , every time you store it more than a couple days , hook it up to the tender , heat kills batteries if ya buy a battery tender it should come with a cool little plug that makes it fairly easy to plug in and un-plug and leave the cord with the plug on your bike

I just bought this battery tender for $35. http://www.hondadirectlineusa.com/st...4&ID=241092130 Should work great for what I need. If i'm not mistaken this is the same battery tender you have isnt it Gleno?

In the picture in the link you posted, the "quik connect" is what "The Don" is talking aboot. You connect that to your battery terminal and never take it off unless you have to. When you park the bike, all you do is plug it up to the Battery Tender and you are done. And it is basic, if you can get to your battery then you have the skills to install the quik connect. Please pull up to the next window....

Here's a couple more things to keep in mind when buying the charger.

Make sure that it is a "Float" type charger and not a "trickle" type charger. A float charger will shut off and maintain a battery, only kicking on to supply voltage when it falls below a certain level. A trickle charger will cook a bike battery in no time because it never tapers off and shuts off when the battery is fully charged. Some of the simple, cheap, little chargers (most look like the same transformer that powers your computer speakers). They might say "float" charger, but it really isn't. It will cook your battery because it's always charging.

Also, make sure that the charger has some kind of desulfating (or it might say "rejuvenating" or "refreshing") circuitry built in. That will keep the plates of the battery clean, and extend the life of the battery several-fold.

It would still be a good idea to hook up a little charger to keep it topped off. Sulfation occurs when a battery is drained and recharged regularly. Even draining/charging repeatedly as little as 1v will degrade the condition of the plates. And keep in mind that with the heat here, a battery loses approx 1% a day.

There are a couple of good .pdf files the Yuasa website that explains it.

So I got the battery tender and it helps keep the battery charged, but everytime I go for a ride and get back and hook the tender to the battery the battery is always on red and needs to be charged again. After I get back from a ride I usually turn the bike off and then turn it back on to let the fan run to cool the engine off and usually the bike will not start again after that eventhough the battery tender indicates that the battery was fully charged before the ride. I knew I would probably have to get a new battery and this just confirms it. My question is, what battery brand is the best to get for this Vegas heat? Do I just stick with Yuasa or buy another brand?

My battery went dead, that's when my bike started to mess up. Went dead, jumped. rode for about an hour but it wasn't enough. Got it recharged up at the bike shop. Rode okay for a while but the gauges go crazy every now and then, and the throttle cuts out here and there...and the lights flicker...and recently, all tac gauges shut down and I went to turn it over and the bike died and I cried.

check your battery terminals? especially the negative

trace the negative cable to where it connects to the frame or engine, and make sure thats tight also. Sounds like you have a bad grounding issue.
