So I can either flat foot one side or tip toe both sides of my bike and it makes me kind of uncomfortable when I think of situations where I could use a firm hold. I was looking thru the manual and whatnot, but Im not sure I grasp it all (visual hands on kind of person). Also I've read and heard to avoid lowering the bike or that I'd be ok. More thoughts?

I lowered Leslie's 500 Ninja (and shaved the seat) so she could flat-foot it. If you need a hand, or advice, I'll try to help. First off, what bike do you have and how tall are you?

lowering a bike does have its bad points you do lose some of the handling. I would first shave the seat a little and see where that get you

If you'd like you can try my Corbin seat on yours - see if that makes enough of a difference. My bike is an '05 naked SV...Not sure if it would fit on your bike or not, but if it doesn't you could always just sit on my bike to see how that feels. It lowers the seat height by about an inch and a half. The only thing about the Corbin seat is that it would be expensive though: ~$235. Either way if you sit on it you can see if a lowered seat makes enough of a difference and then perhaps see about finding someone who shaves seats down.

Ah yes.. riding vibrators... My first bike was a Yamaha Exciter 250. Whoever named that bike knew about the very sweet spot it had when it hit 82 miles per hour. I called it the 'Excite Her'. Rode the heck out of that damn thing on the freeway. Alot. Let's just say the harmonic resonance at 82 mph was divine.

I am also interesting in what it would take to lower the seat height of a 2007 R6 by several inches without impacting its handling. Anything is good, no matter how much modification or money is required.

| Several inches without affecting handling ain't gonna happen. Lowering links in the rear and raising the forks in the triple clamps might get you 2-3 inches. Shave the seat to get another inch or so and that's about it. Even with these mods, turn-in will slow down a bit and things will start to bottom out.

Equanimity Even after I lowered just the rear of Leslie's bike (no preload on the front), it still handled good. More flickable than mine actually. The small 1"-3" of suspension drop isn't going to affect the handling much (that you can tell). Just getting started riding you aren't going to be out tearing it up at the lake or railing around Red Rock enough to bottom out the suspension. Or flicking it fast enough to even notice the slight slower steering of dropping the rear more than the front. Cheapest way is to try dropping the rear preload almost all the way and raise the forks in the tripleclaps 3/4" (if the bars allow) and see if it is enough for you to flatfoot. If so, then buy some lowering links and raise the preload back up to where you can just flatfoot it. Then as your balancing skills get better, you can raise it back up some more. If it isn't enough, shave your seat. After I shaved Leslie's seat I took it to an upholstery place on Main St (So. of Charleston) and had it recovered for $50 (single seat will be much cheaper). Looked like new. You could even buy a seat off eBay, shave it and have it recovered. That way if you screw it up you still have one.

I always thought I would lower my bike when I got it, but I just learned to ride a different way. I usually just lean on one foot when I stop. I'm only 5'5 so I feel your pain. I know i'm 2" taller, but when I got my Corbin seat, it made the seat much wider so now I pretty much have to use one foot. Once you get used to using one foot to stop you will feel more comfortable. I tried lowing my bike for a few months and hated it.

Thank you Angel for lettin me check out your seat. I've decided to go with boots and shaving down the seat. I should get it back from upholstry today, but since it's a free favor I'm trying not to hold my breath. I'm hoping for the best. I happened to just google pics of female rides and noticed a lot of them who cant flat foot, but Im sure like mentioned Ill get used to it.

if ur height still isnt enough u can always put insoles in the shoes for an inch or so of extra height, and if that still dont work u can try bolting 2x4's to the bottom of your shoes? hehe, You should be fine toots dont worry bout it.

| Quote: 2x4's? how bout these hun? http://www.alternative-footwear.co.u...020_BlkPat.jpg So seat was finished. I can't flat foot both sides, but damn near close. I can definately flat one side before the kick stand would touch the ground. Took the bike for a trip around the shops where I work at. At the first turn I kinda just went straight...took me two trips around the buildings to get used to leaning in with the bike. >.< A few guys workin overtime stood outside the shops watching me make my lil 3rd gear laps. Eventually one came over and started to coach me. "Stop thinking so much or it fucks things up" I can't wait to be comfortable on this bike already. It's such a big change from a gz250
