It's not all that hard to do and it's not a real novel idea (i've seen similar things done before). Coming up with a universal remote would be the key to selling a kit. I'm more interested in finding out how buellrider trains his wench. Teach me.

That's pretty cool. I have see that done on another forum where they hooked it up to the headlight. Flip the high beams on, door opens, flip it to low, it closes. or vice versa, depending on how you hook it up.

Usually just keep mine in my jacket.... but with summer coming, I may give one of these a try.

Well, if you think about it, they have the garage remotes in alot of cars these days, sooner or later they'll figure out that it's an even better idea on bikes!!!

Just saw this (ya, 3 yrs too late. LOL)...but unfortunately the pics are gone.

I really need to do this because it's getting on my nerves having to turn off the bike, open the rear seat to press the button all the time on the remote.

I just wish I could see the pics to see how he wired the switch to the remote. That's the biggest thing I need, I think. Then figure out where to mount the switch so it's not really visable to everyone, but easy to get to.

Then again, I could use the switch that came with my SpeedoHealer (v4)..it's small as hell and already has enough wiring to go under the seats and such! Its for seeing your top speed or rpm (I can't remember which), but I don't think I'll ever really use it for that and it's just sitting in the pkg. LOL I'd just have to take the connector off the end of it and wire it up. Just need to figure out how to wire it to the remote.

Any one else have pics of this idea?

I am going to be trying this soon...

Garage door opener mod....one of the best yet!!! : Yamaha R1 Forum

You can run it to your bright switch, just tap the brights on and off and bam garage opens.

Theres also a way to do it for your pass light.

I don't have the pictures but I remember what they looked like pretty vividly. I could make some crude drawings if you want... I was really simple.

I've been meaning to do the pass light thing for ages. Was just thinking about it today.

Arson & Slejor,

Thanks for the info..ironically I was on R1-forum doing a search and have been looking at all the threads on this.

Only thing I don't like about using the high beam switch is if you decide to use the high beams, that means (even if you're not near home) you have the garage door opener on the whole time. I don't like the idea of that..even though I don't normally use my high beams a bunch, but still.

I wish we had a passing switch/light on the R1 because I would use that in a heartbeat. That isn't something you turn on and keep on. So, I envy you Gixxer owners for that one!

We can hook it to the horn switch, but I don't think my nabors (or fiance) would like it very much of me hitting the horn every night when I get home really late from work.

So, really, I can only use a switch for mine, but I'm going to wire it through the electrical system, so that it can only be used when the key is in and on..at least that's some protection from anyone just triggering it.

But I appreciate the info from you guys. I've got a few posts saved that show how it's done. Looks like you also don't need to jump the switch if you're using a secondary switch.

Most all garage door openers use a momentary switch. Even if you hold the button down for 5 days, its not sending out a signal unless you let go and press the switch again. Wiring it to your highbeam switch wont be an issue.
