There is a dirt bike class on February 4th (the date changed). It is www.dayinthedesert.com I am going to sign up for this class. It is off road basic and safety, kinda like the MSF course. Anyone interested?

Here is a link to the video

Did the class this Sunday out at the dry lake bed. There were only 3 of us in the class. One guy had never ridden a motorcycle before. He had 0 knowledge of how the bike worked. The girl that was there has ridden on the street a bit on an EX250.

They will actually supply all the gear you need, but they do suggest that you have your own helmet and boots. We were on brand new hondas. We had 2 230fs, 1 150f and a backup 100f.

The first part of the class was just like the MSF street course. They go over inspecting your bike before a ride. Each one of the controls was explained etc. This makes it perfect for a beginning rider. The first couple of lessons were REAL basic. Being able to let out the clutch and get the bike rolling, then shifting gears etc.

The second half was more interesting. We went over body positioning, getting up off the bike correctly. Manuvering around cones while off the seat was next. Slow speed maunerving, counterbalancing, weight shifting, going over obsticles etc.

We then did some hill manuvers, such as stalling on a hill and how to get down. Body position changes going up, down and along side a hill. Then we did a short trail run. There were some simple little whoop sections that were very sandy. In fact, the one girl rider went down face first. She got a little wobbly and tensed up. She was O.K., just covered in dust from head to toe.

All in all it was a great experience. I would like to see an advanced version of the class as well. Apparently, this is in the works. I would suggest this course to anyone wanting to ride in the dirt. If you have new riders or kids, I would say this is a must.
