So, got a frantic call last night from my mother. The kidney transplant coordinator from UMC was trying to call me, but had a wrong number. So, I called UMC's switchboard and asked for the on-call coordinator. I was told she'd page her and call me back. An hour later, the coordinator calls back and tells me that she needed to confirm some info because I'm now in the top five on the transplant list. So, looks like I'll be going under the knife soon. I'm both really nervous 'cause it's surgery and I'll have to stay away from my cats for a month, but also happy that I should be able to return to work in a few months after the surgery. I'll try to post when I get "the call".

BTW, this isn't my first surgery. I'm to the point where the surgery itself doesn't scare me, it's the waking up after that I don't like. Seems I always get the anesthesiologist that wants to over-inflate the artificial airway, resulting in me having a sore throat for 2 days. Last time, my throat was so irritated, I couldn't eat or drink for over 12 hours and was even having a hard time breathing.

That's what happened to Les from her 2nd neck fusion surgery. Plus they had to push her trach to the side so theyt could get in there and put the plates/screws in.

Good luck with your surgery, and congrats on finally getting it. Any idea where it's going to be at?
