The secretary will be doing this...I never said they wouldnt be.

The way you came off last night in your reply made it sound like the only duty for the secretary were meeting minutes. This is incorrect as you can see by the bylaws.

I also explained to you the issues with what is happening currently last night. Not really sure why I am having to explain this again.

And I was the officer that stepped up and took the notes. For the past few years. One thing people were becoming reliant on was the meeting minutes. Why come to a meeting, when I can just read online. To me this is one helluva easy cop out. And if people want to be a apart of this club you should make the effort to get caught up. Speak with an officer, come out to the rides, etc.

Arson...stop taking notes at the meeting and pass the torch to our new secretary. Stop hoarding duties.

I never tried to make it appear that the secretary was only around for taking minutes, but I do think it's the most important duty of the position.

And our conversation last night has nothing to do with what I posted today. This was mainly in response to the paragraph about "stepping up" to take the minutes yourself. I've taken the minutes myself on occasions when we had no secretary present. Bottom line - somebody should be recording meeting minutes, and I don't believe it should be the person leading the meeting. Here's the minutes from the last time I took them : February 2008 SCS Meeting Minutes. I didn't do anything remarkable. If someone's capturing at least that much detail, then I'll be happy.

And last, the point of the meeting shouldn't be for people "to get caught up." If that were the case, why even bother going when you can read individual posts in the members forum? Meeting are for interactions and to bring up issues where they can be quickly discussed by a group. That's why I brought up the public twt thing there.

Last edited by Slejor; April 12th at 10:14 pm. Reason: I was wrong - I didn't take the March 08 meeting minutes because I was leading the meeting. See how that works?

Kinda ironic that we had this discussion about people reading the meeting minutes instead of coming to the meeting in that link I posted.

I never said that meetings should be for people to catch up. I said that people shouldnt rely on meeting minutes to catch up.

And you are correct about the meetings being the place to bring up current issues and or questions and get them handled quickly. Thats what they are there for and the best place to do so and of course to interact, the BEST PART of the meetings. Shoot the shit for an hour and grub and get business handled.

I havent seen this great of attendance since we stopped posting up public meeting minutes...among other things.. I have a feeling once people have an excuse to not show up, they wont. It keeps members and people pro active in the club by making them come out to rides, twts to then catch up and find out whats going on in the club. As pat stated in your post, "why would people come to the meetings if they can just find out what they need to know by going online?".

And I totally agree that I shouldnt be taking the notes and conducting the meeting at the same time. It does take a bit away from me being able to mediate and write things down at the same time..but that has now changed since tomy manned up! =D

But, sure we can SAY someone should of stepped up. We can SAY a lot of things and do lots of nothing.. If you or anyone for that matter is so suddenly concerned about meeting minutes, why didnt you or anyone else jump up and offer to take them at least once in the past 2 years? Or bring it up at a meeting? Nothing for over 2 years...

This is my point(s)..

Not once did anyone offer to do them or ask where MM were or be in any way shape or form be concerned about MM for over 2 years. Why now?
I continued to do meeting notes by hand during the meeting and keeping them in our notebook for historical reference, that has never changed..We just have not been posting Meeting minutes on the website. This Required members to be pro active and communicate with members and or officers with what is going on.

This entire debacle just seems a bit weird that now we have that pos filled, that NO ONE wanted to fill before and suddenly people are demanding and complaining on something that previously had absolutely no weight or concern on any one of us for years?? If people are current with the club, go to meetings, show up to rides, twts, why would you need meeting minutes? Any questions you had could be directed towards the secretary even further involving you in the club by actually interacting with someone. The secretary will continue to take notes and keep them in our binder for historical purposes and continue with meeting minutes.

I am mearly voicing my opinion. You guys want MM back in the member forums, ok it will happen once the officers get caught up.. but I have a feeling the dedication to make meetings and other events will be severely degraded...

but this would also relieve the need to hold any special meetings for people like derrick or buck that couldnt make the normal meetings due to work etc etc...and still be an active member...

So I am torn... =\

Didnt open up anything. I was simply commenting on the way people seemed to be asking for things.

And I dont want people to become dependent on meeting minutes and was voicing my concern.
