Alright, I've been going over in my head how to approach the biggest issue SCS is presently experiencing... MEMBER PARTICIPATION. The SCS Spookbike Ride really brought this problem home in my opinion. Out of the 40 or so SCS members and prospects we currently have, only FIVE people (three members, one Prospect, and Eric Jr) showed up to this ride. I wasn't even going to post the pictures of the ride up, especially after the big-ass stink was brought up on 702 regarding this ride. Only having FIVE PEOPLE show up to this ride after such an issue was made is downright embarrassing.

Another big issue related to participation is the obvious lack of interest in the M.A.R.S. initiative. I made this post over a month ago and only ONE person other than Pat (vegasvideo) and myself responded to the thread! I can't imagine ANYONE in SCS not wanting to be involved in this project! We should ALL have a vested interest in the success of M.A.R.S.! As I stated before, it is not necessary to attend all of the M.A.R.S. meetings, just make yourself available as a resource.

Now as President of SCS, the blame for this issue falls squarely on my shoulders. And I'm disappointed at the fact that we can't get members out to support the various functions/projects/activities that other members work so hard to organize. And if you're not disappointed as well, there's an even bigger problem. EVERYONE here joined SCS to promote responsible sportbike riding in the Valley. So in essence EVERYONE who can read this post needs to get off their collective asses and make an effort to keep this club alive! Make a commitment to participate in SCS activities and let's start by responding to this thread! And if you have any questions or concerns...LET'S HEAR THEM!

Here's a good first start... get our patches to HDC and make an impression that we are here in the valley!

Come to TWT and help make this impression...

what a heart breaking post, I for one am guilty of not showing up to the spook night but i was stuck at work until 10pm, but Eric you have a valid point. But Tuesaday nights for me are booked due to class, I wish I could give more time but it sucks to feel helpless in this situation. I for one feel bad and I will try more harder to support our club.

I really don't know what to say, you sure hit things home Eric. I have been under some distress the past couple months for personal reasons but it looks as though I am pulling out quite well. As for the spookbike run, I know thats not the main issue, but around the holidays you have to expect people are going to have some other things going on. I am not disagreeing with you at all, just pointing out some things I think should be takin into consideration. This should be something discussed at the next meeting, what it's gonna take to get more participation..

Thank you Eric for speaking up. I truly feel the same way. I know we all have our seperate lives and all but the bottom line is WE all joined a club because WE understood what it means. We might as well be a group instead of a club. I remember when the whole M.A.R.S. thing started and i put a post on raising money for kids with cancer and that M.A.R.S. was going to have there first speaking out. The only SCS people were myself and JWD. After i showed up. Here came 20 702 guys rolling in a pack then Ruff Riders come rolling in a pack of 10. I really didn't feel the love there from the people that mattered to me.

This is going to be a touchy subject but this is how i feel.
I feel this all started when Gleno past away.

Gleno had a dream and vision for this club. I saw it you saw it. Has that vision died? I know Gleno is gone but were still here guys. I am not even close to what he was but I am still here. Anything you guys need let me know i am there for you. Do you just need a hug call me up 267-8799 I will do that because I love you guys.

And after everything that goes on in my everyday life and trust me i have very little time. I do it because i found a family in SCS. We are a club lets keep it that way.

Well said Eric! The only way this club/family works is if we get involved. That doesn't mean attending every event, but every event you can. That means blowing off or putting off other things to partisipate. I work an average of 70 hours+ a week, but I still do what I can.

Bump SCS up a couple of levels on the priorty chart and you will see a HUGE change in the club. We all have reason why we can't...let's find reasons why we can.

These are my exact sentiments! We all can't do everything, but we can do something. Let's ALL give SCS a little bit of our time.

One word for you Angel...RIDES! You have a wealth of riding experience and I think it would be great for some of our newer members who haven't had a chance to ride with you to get some quality feedback. Once you get your new scoot, I know you'll be ready to rock and roll! I'll try my best to get the newer peeps to participate the next time you post something up.

Yes, the holidays are a busy time. Matter of fact, we're gonna have our annual Candlelighters Adopt A Family project going on pretty soon. Even if someone can't participate in the Holiday Party (even though they generally kick ass), we can ALL contribute something to this grand cause. Stay tuned for more info on this.

This issue most likely won't come up at our monthly meeting. Reason being is that we changed our format to take care of most of the internal Club matters online. This is a great opportunity for members to speak (type) up and let their issues be known. Also, this gives our membership the opportunity to consider HOW they can help out given their scheduling restrictions.

And it's dedicated SCS members such as yourself and others that will enable us to realize Gleno's vision. Gleno experienced frustration as well... and when it got to the point where throwing in the towel would have probably been the easiest solution, he stuck with SCS. This club is something he truly believed in and so do I. Don't get discouraged... persistence is key.

The part I find frustrating is the fact that the peeps who are responding to this thread are the ones who are active participating members in SCS. I want to hear from the ones that pay their dues at the beginning of the year, and ONLY pay their dues. Things are definitely going to be different next year with the new by-laws when peeps will be expected to have more participate. In January we'll see where the loyalty lies.
