Sorry for resurrecting a very old thread, but I was pointing out to a buddy of mine how its a bad idea to ride without boots, and I remembered this post. I wanted to show him why, but the pictures are not available anymore. Sorry, but I don’t know if it’s ok to ask about them, I don’t know John and Judy personally, and I don’t know if this is a sensitive topic. So I apologize if anyone is offended or anything. Are they available on photo bucket or something ?

You shouldn't have any trouble finding graphic crash pictures from fallen riders with no gear on other forums. The primary function of the boot is to make sure your footwear stays on during a crash. Anything else, you usually see them immediately fly off as soon as they hit contact with the ground so it becomes like if you were riding barefoot.

Had the "great gear debate" (to wear or not to wear) the other day in my garage with a guy who rides. His thinking is/was "when its your time its your time" gear cant save ya. I replied "maybe, maybe not" and then tried to ease into my personal experiences (my dad was an E.R. doctor and trauma surgeon, sister is a trauma nurse) anyway...I soon realized that it was wasted breath. Personally "getting geared up" gets me mentally ready to ride, its a routine much like doing a pre-flight on an aircraft. And I KNOW gear saves lives and reduces injury. My 2c

Well there are crashes where there is no amount of gear that can save your life. But most crashes you can survive and minimize your injuries. It's your body, so it's your decision. Just don't expect too much sympathy from me when somebody could have prevented their injuries by wearing the proper safety gear. For some people, they forget that motorcycles are dangerous. But you can minimize a lot of these risks, one of them is by gearing up.
