Here's a few pics from a call I did today. The rider looked like he either a) hit some gravel and lost the corner or b) was going too fast for the turn. It was hard to say. He was wearing a helmet, but it was a 2 piece that broke on impact. Rider will be ok and I made a contact with a club from central Cali. Everybody be safe! I don't want to have to help scrape your ass off the road.

That's just like Mr. Pheer's bike. Was that helmet one of the flip-up ones?

To add to the theme of this post yesterday I went on the Brothel Poker Run and a group of riders with the Gent's group went down on Hwy.160 on the North side of Pahrump and shut the road down for awhile. The result I got from a friend who Prospecting with the Gent's told me six riders went down the worst casuality was a female rider lost a foot. It seems an 18 wheeler was turning left off 160 when the lead two riders started slowing down the next group didn't see this and ran into the lead duo and at the back of the pack a car hit two or more from behind when it couldn't stop fast enough.

Note that 35% of all crashes showed major impact on the chin-bar area. This means that if you ride with an open-face helmet, you are accepting only 65% of the protection that could be available to your head.

If people ride with a shorty or half helmet, they are accepting only 39% of the protection they could obtain. They are literally throwing away 61% of the protection they would have had had they chosen a full-face helmet.

There are no modular helmets to my knowledge that has been Snell approved. Now you know why.

That's why group rides can be very dangerous. Sometimes you just don't know how the rider behind you rides. There inability to ride correctly, not looking ahead where they should, instead they are probably looking down. Not maintaining a proper safety margin. What Warren described was 100% avoidable, too bad for the women who lost her foot. A couple of weeks ago during the Gleno Memorial Ride, the rider behind me was following waaay to close, especially for the wet conditions we were riding in. I had to make some adjustments.

The modular helmet sold in dealerships with the Harley Davison logo on it, is actually the KBC FFR.

Harley has deals with many manufacturers to rebrand and sell their merchandise with the Harley logo on it. The Harley-Davidson branded exhaust on my bike is made by Supertrapp, but without any mention of Supertrapp on it.

Its a shame that the guy's tour pack busted and separated from the bike, those are expensive. But I wonder if he wants to sell those wheels...
