Has anyone been out to Lake Mead recently or know the status of the roads? I've heard they're doing construction. I've got some friends coming to visit me from San Diego next weekend and I was thinking of taking them down to Hoover Dam, since they've never been... then heading through the Lake and up to Valley of Fire. They are coming on their VFRs so we will be travelling by bike. If anybody has info. on roads and whether it's worth going through there next Saturday, let me know. If you have suggestions for routes, I'm all ears. I also thought of taking them to Oatman...

And, if anybody wants to join us, let me know and we can figure out a time and meeting spot... fellow Viffer-riders Toddulu and BlueRider702...?? All are welcome!!

I live at the entrance to Lake Mead on the north side and ride it at least a couple of times a week. Nothing to bad on the lake side. Can't speak for VOF. As far as Oatman (please chime in Chaos or Blooddust) you don't want to go if there has been any rain or snow because the roads get covered in debris.

By the way weren't you at the Bordello Run? I thought I saw you, but I was waiting in line for my card.

Well hope to see you soon.

Yup, I was there. Some of the Harley guys at the Hard Rock (where I'm currently working) invited me to go with them earlier in the week. I only went for the first two stops, then headed back solo for a "bodywork"/physical therapy appt. Sorry I missed ya! Damn those lines were long, huh?

I hope to get out to a TWT or a ride with you guys soon. I've got company coming in next weekend then the weekend after that. The 14th, Desert Riders Club is going to Scotty's Castle, so I'll be going on that ride. If anybody wants to go on that, let me know and I can post up the details.

I rode the lake today. I went just past Red Stone to see if the rumored construction was a reality, but they have not started on that section yet. Are you sure you want to take them on that washboard of a road past Red Stone? There are dirt roads around here that are in better condition than that! Anyhow, I am game, just post up the details. I'd invite AussieinUSA as well, but he is leaving to go back to visit his homeland on Wednesday.

Post up the Scotty's Castle ride too! I've been through Death Valley a number of times, but never up that far...

Just got back from the Lake and there is construction between Echo Bay and Valley of Fire( 3 spots ) otherwise roads are clear but very washboarded near Valley of Fire.

So... if you wanted to go from the Dam up to VOF, what route would you recommend? Just go up 15 to Overton? I've only been through VOF twice in the 2.5 years I've been here and haven't spent much time around the lake, so I don't know my way around there too well. I appreciate all of your input so far and sure would appreciate your advice on routing. If some of you come along, maybe one of you would like to lead, or I don't mind leading if someone who knows their way is right behind confirming turns, etc.

Thanks in advance!!
Karen

North Shore Rd & I-15 are the only ways to get to VOF unless there's some secret Rd that no one ever talks about. You just have to decide if you want to slab it, or deal w/ a road that's seen a better day for about 20 miles. Or you can do both and make a loop out of it.

Here's a map...

from:I-515 S to:NV-169/NV-40 to:Northshore Rd/NV-167 to:Lakeshore Rd/Lakeshore Dr/NV-166/State 146 to:Hoover Dam, Uninc Mohave County, AZ (hoover dam) to:35.985785,-114.919739 to:I-515 N - Google Maps
