Just curious if anyone had the opportunity to ride thru or have ridden into Colorado City Ut. It's a city made up of all Mormons, from the Warren Jeffs Polygamy camp and apparently all the citizens from this town gives every visitor a cold welcome. It's just east of St. George Ut, near the AZ, NV, border. I had a friend who went their and said it was the weirdest feeling you will ever come across.

Thought it would make a very interesting group ride in the future. I'm in by the way if anyone would like to head up that way. I ain't goin alone.

Been through there going the back way to Coral Pink. It is a weird feeling. Pretty funny actually. It's probably about 150 miles there Shelly

Ok, so 300 miles ruff estimate round trip? I think that this would be a good idea to do but we would need to leave really early.

Actually, the town is in Arizona, next to the Utah border.

Here's a small link about the town.

A brief history of the polygamists in Colorado City, Arizona and Hildale, Utah

The round trip ride to St. George I just did twice in one week with PK averaged about 5 hrs total. This includes all the usual stops for gas and a lunch break. Adding the side trip to that place in plan being gone 6 hrs. Bring PK with you to get extra stares.

Here is a map if anyone wants to see.
from:Iron Skillet Restaurant to:St. george to:Colorado City, AZ - Google Maps
Actual drive time (according to this) 2.5 hours one way, 5 hours round trip.

If we want this ride lets make it official. I think I am available. Matt, what do we have in the SCS defense fund for bail money

Seriously if you want this I help you put it together, gas up in St. George etc...
Let me know.

I'm in.....but just a friendly reminder, this Sunday is Naascar day. I-15 will be all jammed up if you leave too late. And if we come back around the late afternoon or late evening, you're going to hit the aftermath as well. But I can always take the west 215 loop to scoot around that mess.

Damn I forgot about that! It is also Superbike and there is a function over at Moto Cafe that I should really attend!

Maybe Red Rock and a rain check on Colorado City, AZ?

Yes I've rode there, and yes it's a very weird feeling. You actually have to get off the highway to go through the "town". Women in bonnets and 1800's style dresses. I didn't get the cold feeling as they waved when we rode by, but definitely strange...

You're not going to be able to skip the NASCAR stuff as the 215 interchange is on the Vegas side of the speedway. I wouldn't recommend going this sunday...

BTW, this is the best riding. If you stop @ Colorado City you're stopping before it gets good. Get past Fredonia, AZ and start heading up the hill and the twisties are da bomb!

That's actually how you should go to skip the speedway. Take North Shore Rd from Henderson out to Logandale!

Damn, you're right, but not by much. Anyway, I'm down for this Sunday. As long as there is one other rider I will go. However, the speedway would not be a good starting point.

Colorado City and Hilldale are literally right next to each other. You almost feel like you have stepped into Little House on the Prarie. Map Quest says it would be around 324 miles round trip

Colorado City is on the Arizona side of the border and Hilldale is on the Utah side. They are the fundamentalist mormons and they are really nice people. I worked with some of them in a sheet metal shop years ago and they are really good people. Dont hate on them because of the lifestyle they choose.

Going that direction this Sunday could a roll of the dice. NASCAR messes thing up eeven in Mesquite. I think going west to DV might be a better idea, or even Kingman/Oatman.

We can always go on Saturday vs Sunday which is the race day. I'll go either day if anyone else want to venture on this field trip.

Even if it involves having ten wives and marrying 14 yr old girls. That's what got Warren Jeffs put in the slammer for. Anyway, that's the town that he helped build, and they still continue on like nothing ever happen, I guess.

I'm not a religous person so I have no understanding or the concept about the ideas what makes people want to kill, fight, and go to war for.
