If it shutdown, it probably is the charging system that's bad.
Check THAT out before you spend money on a new battery (although after draining it, you might still need that too)

damn that sucks ive been charging and trickleing it for about 6 months now once a week and when it finally shut down on me it was like sputtering and missing then it was done. if its the charging system how do i check it? do i need to find a way to get it started again and see if its charging? or is there another way and how does a bike charge, is there a generator on it and where is it? (i know those are dumb ? but i havent gone through this prob yet on a bike) thanks

ive allready checked the batt and its at 11.3, but the only way to check the charging system is to have it running right.

Is this after the bike died ? Or did you charge the battery after ?

Try to start the bike with the volt meter connected to the battery terminals, and rev the bike to 4,000 rpm and see what it reads.

Charging system problem.
Could be the rectifier/regulator or stator.

You can check them with the voltmeter.

Find the wires coming from the stator to the rect/reg.
Turn bike on and see if those wires have voltage (A/C).
