Well, it's to cold for my bones right now this weekend (Jan 13). But next weekend (Jan 20) looks like it's going to be pushing 60 degrees. So, a few of us are gonna do a Valley of Fire ride. I've also posted this ride info up at 702, Forced Induction (in their motorcycle section, not car section) and VSR sites. I thought maybe I should post it up here to and see if some folks want to come along for a fun little morning ride outside of town. Anyway, here's the info for those that are interested in the ride.

Meet up spot is:Petro Gas Station.
I-15 at Speedway Blvd, Exit 54
6595 North Hollywood Blvd.
North Las Vegas, NV 89115

Day: Saturday, January 20, 2007
Time: 09:00 am for those wanting to grab breakfast at Iron Skillet (inside Petro Truck Stop; i.e. SAME location)
Kick stands up at 10:00 am.

Here's the route.

I doubt if I'll be able to make this, although I'd love to go. You may want to take the road into Overton...there's some nice, new road going out that way. And watch out for the construction/dirt road on the way back by the lake.

Yeah we went about a month ago. A short portion, like a mile or two is jacked. But the rest of the ride is great.

The road out of Overton is terrible until you get about half way - that is where the new pavement starts. So take it slow until then. Bumpy and then they have the road tore up in a few spots around mile 26 I think- was out there about 3 weeks ago. If you ride up to exit 93 you don't have to pay the Valley of Fire entrance fee if they still require it from that way- unless you want to go through there for the scenery.

Small changes. Kick stands up at 10 am to accommodate some other riders AND it will be even warmer by 10 am. Those interested in breakfast, show up at 9 or so. Same location. The Petro Truck Stop. Inside is the Iron Skillet. Several of us are going to grab breakfast before we hit the road at 10 am.

Yeah the day started out good. About 25 bikes or so. JamesE showed up with a newly acquired flat and had to plug it. Paul also ripped off 15-17 teeth from his sprocket and "took it easy" (for Paul) the rest of the day. We made it out to VoF and about half of the group peeled off and went up the hill in the real tight twisties with lots of red rock area. The rest of us headed toward Calville. But us in that group didn't know the guys peeled off. We waited about 15 mins, sent a rider back, he found nothing and then a bunch of ambulances went by us. We stopped the last one and sure enough they were going to a bike wreck.

Shit!

We flipped a U-turn and went up the hills. Apparently a new rider, I'm not sure of his name or forum name took a left turn doing about 15-20 (from what I'm told) and just went off the road. I heard he is very new, riding about 2 weeks with extremely low miles on his bike. At the site he looked "okay". Had some leg road rash (jeans only). His Alipine Stars jacket worked just fine, no cuts on his upper body. But the paramedics took him just to be safe. I think he was complaining of neck and back pain, so they went to get him checked out by the hospital. Astrx and MoonBaby and a few others stayed so Astrx could get his truck and take the bike home for the guy. I think he is gonna be just fine, more damage to his bike than him, but not overly bad.

After the ambulance left, we peeled off and went up to Calville about 6-8 of us at this point. Weather was great. Rangers were rolling deep, and the wreak obviously made the ride a buzzkill overall. It was however, good to see everyone and look forward to our next ride.

BTW, the VoF road is repaved for a few miles. VERY nice. Pretty smooth. Of course, there is still that unfixed area for several miles that is kind of wavy.

I took some pics, I'll post them later.

yeah I hope he'll be ok, from what I heard, he had something hard in his backpack and when he went down that's what hurt his back.
I hope we'll get some news fast.

That's some bad area there. A guy who use to post here (john89147) dumped his tuber (older style buell) a couple of years ago and messed up his hand to where it required surgery. Other than that his gear/helmet/boots saved him. I think it was his round-a-bout way to talking the wifey into a new buell x bike...

Yep I'll live, and a two week old bike now looks like 3 year old scrap.
I got some road rash on the left knee, bruises on left ankle, and my back is hurt cause when I landed I landed on the front disk brake lock that I had in my back pack. They can't tell if a fractured the ribs or just really burised the muscles back there. But I'll Live.
I'm sorry I ruined such a nice day. First day to meet anybody, quite the impression.
Thanks again to everybody.
Well I'm going to try and get some rest. Thanks again.

Good to hear he's ok. At least he got his first wreck out of his system, it sucks to wreck that quick but everyone wrecks eventually. He's probably more pissed off about the bike at this point like I was when I wrecked. That's also why I never ride with anything hard in my backpack. I just store my lock in what little truck I have.
