I Ride: Shift Red 2005 Yamaha YZF-R1
Hey all,

I just received my track plastics tonight from my friend in CA. I mounted them up, but have some questions/concerns about some things and I thought I'd post them up here and see if anyone can help. I hope so, otherwise I think I'm screwed for Sat. LOL

Okay, onto my question/problems...

First off, I got them mounted (had to redrill a few holes to make it fit right, but they are on there now and bolted down), but I HAD to remove my sidestand from the bike. There was no other way unless I really cut the plastics down/out on that side and I really didn't want to do that. However, how in the hell do you rig the sidestand switch so that it thinks the sidestand is up and the bike will run? I need a FOOLPROOF way to do it. I'd hate to be on the track (especially in the middle of the corner) and the stupid thing pop out and think the stand is down and kill the engine! That's why I don't want to just "tape it up" so to speak.

Secondly...how and where (if you even can), do you put the speedo/tach assy??? There is no provision on the track plastics to bolt it on. Normally it attaches to my headlight assy that is attached to the upper plastics...well, that's gone with the track plastics. So, do you just say screw it, unplug it and just take it out and ride without a tach/speedo? I know the speedo isn't really important, but how important is the tach? Plus, will the bike run "normally" without the tach/speedo assy plugged in? Or will it throw a code and not let the bike run normally?

I think that's it. Oh ya, one other quick thing. There is no real "undertail" on the bike with track plastics. Is it okay with Cal-Sportbike's track day tech guys to just leave it open? Or will I have a problem with tech having no real undertail?

I think that's it for now. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Other than that, they are mounted and look good. After this track day, I'll take them off and sand them down and prep them for paint and come up with a color scheme.

Oh by the way...I need this info as soon as possible because I only have Thur night and Fri night to fix it!!!! LOL

Thanks!
Mat

Thanks to Dave for giving me a shout about the switch...I'll try his "fix" tomorrow.

I think I'll have to make a little "L" bracket to mount the speedo/tach onto the metal brace that goes around the front end of the bike. If I can do that, I'll keep the tach, if not, I'll pull it and not put it on.

Okay...just thought I'd thank Jerry & Dave for their help and ideas.

Everything should be good to go with the bike now. I found a way to ziptie the tach assy onto the fairing stay, so that is good to go. Fixed the switch for the "missing" side stand and make sure everything was good to go with the "stock undertail" that I'm using.

Here are a couple of shots of the bike really quickly tonight. I'm sure I'll take more at the track on Sat.

Thanks again!

Ya, ya, I know...

I didn't say it was going to look pretty, but then again, I just got the plastics on frickin' Wed. LOL Cut me some slack, will ya? They are USED plastics after all! LOL

Once I'm done on Sat, I'm already going to start the sanding and reworking the plastics. I'm going to come up with a fun paint scheme and get 'er prepped and the shoot the paint. So, my next track day, the plastics will look WAY better.

So far the bike is ready to rock (besides looking like azz as Gleno nicely pointed out. ). Everything is hooked up and good to go.

Oh, and if you think they looked bad before...wait till you see what i did with a marker tonight. MUHAHAHAHAHHAHA!!!!!
