I bought my leathers today, the last big investment that I needed to make for getting out to the track. All that is left is to finish getting the bike ready. I'm sure this is on here somewhere, but does it have to be safetied if I'm not racing? I've heard yes and no recently. I know about the mirrors/headlight taillights/radiator fluid. Is there anything else? I have new tires, which should be fine for when I'm planning on going, which is the Vegas day in Feb and March too. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Safety wire the oil drain plug. It's not always required, but it's still a good idea.

Every Track Day Org. is different, so like Warren said check out their website.

Thanks. Is it pretty easy to drill through the plug, or should I have somebody do it?

Racer's edge sells drain plugs that are predrilled for $10. Go to Harbor Freight and buy a set of safety wire pliers (the small ones) and get a spool of wire from Cycle Gear. You may as well learn how to do it yourself if you want to ride the track much...

Let me know once you get ready for the safety wiring, etc... I'll give you a hand.

For track days, the most you'll need to do is safety wire the drain plug and oil filter, and change coolant to either engine ice or water wetter.

The track day at the LV Speedway in Feb and March is organized by Fastrack riders.
Here is their web page where it shows the requirements: Fastrack Riders

They had started requiring drain plug and filter safety wiring this year, but it seems they removed that restriction. But, it is possible they might re-add it for the 2010 season.

Either way, it is a good idea to safety wire at least those two items.

I can also help you wire these items if you want.Drilling the drain plug is fairly easy, and the filter is also pretty easy to do using a hose clamp around it.

I prefer the hose clamp method on the oil filter (as opposed to the K&N filters that have the nut+holes welded on the end) because:
1- Allows me to use any filter I'd like.
2- I can take off-on the hose clamp without having to re-do the safety wiring on it.

I might end up doing Feb and March...
The weather will play a large part in my decision...cold and windy track days are no fun for me.

Don't forget to stretch out your leathers too. Just lounge aroudn the house with em, do chores and whatever you can to stretch them out. It helps, trust me.

Thanks again for all the advice. I've been wearing the leathers almost everyday, since bike is my only transportation. Still stiff tho. I actually have a K&N filter on right now, but I'm assuming that I'm going to have to do another oil change in order to get my drain plug wired up, so I supposed I'll do the hose clamp method. I'll let you know when I will be getting ready to do this, pretty busy with shows right now.
