LVMS classic course / CCS Southwest / fri, sat, sun event / May 26-28th Fri practice session: my homie Geoff (WERA/CCS Ex #313) didn't arrive from Salinas until 3:45am that morning do to an accident between Baker,Ca and LV. i told him to sleep until 10am or 11am to get some type of rest, then we'd head to the track. the last thing he needed was to be on the track with 2-3hrs of sleep. once we got there, unpacked, registered, and got teched it was lunchtime. after i got some new rubber mounted i was ready to head out. i'm in practice group #4 (novice). i head out for some laps and as i get onto the front straight i get the meatball flag. wtf? turns out i was on the track with group #3(experts) ... oops ![]() finally, i went out and my laptimes were booty, in fact it actually said "booty" in the laptime section under my name. i was slower than slow and was nervous about racing. this ain't nothing like doing comedy. i wished i had a mic and 500 people to tell some jokes too. best lap was a 1:36-37. Sat practice/race: winds were about 35 million mph that day ... fuck that, no practice or racing for me. i moved my races to Sunday. Sun practice we got two practice sessions in the morning. they weren't long either maybe 10-12 mins each. i head out on the track and my gas light comes on ... shit! by the time i pitted, got off the bike, and filled up they were calling the next group to go out. my next session went well, my best lap was in the 1:34 range. ok, still sad but at least i'm picking up the pace. first race, race #2, Heavyweight Supersport, 8 laps: gridded dead last, row 7. there was an extremely small turn out for this weekend, 5 novice and maybe 4 experts in this race. laptimes showed three novice's running 1:26-27 range during practice ... fuck them ![]() i'm running comparable times to bike #235 so that's who i'm concentrating on. i'm more nervous than ever once i grid up. too late to back out now! ready, set, go! green flag and i got the worst start in the history of startdom. i'm bringing up the rear nicely. i was about 2 secs off from the next rider (bike #235) after two laps. the three faster novices were gone ... fuck them again ![]() by lap 3 the nerves went away and i settled down. i caught up to #235 on the 5th lap and i kept showing him a wheel until the end but i just couldn't get by him. ok cool, first race in the books, dead last or 5th place as i like to call it ... lol. i learned something for the next race. next race was race 11, i had time to rethink. Twisted Pete was corner working and gave me a few pointers, so did Brad and Robbie ... thx fellas 2nd race, race #11, Heavyweight Superbike, 8 laps: gridded dead last again, row 7. the grid is identical to Race 2 except for one more rider. #235 is gridded next to me. ready, set, go! green flag and i got the 2nd worst start in the history of startdom but i'm not as far back as in race 1. maybe a sec off #235. on lap 3 or 4, i remembered from the last race that no matter how far he was ahead of me i would always make up time on the back sweeper T6. maybe i could pass there. we both passed another rider going coming out of T7 and i'm on him going into T8 onto the front straight. i'm a few bike lengths back as he straightens up and heads down the straight. i decide to late brake him going into T1. i watch him lift his head up to brake and i stay on the gas and went by him pretty easy just like Geoff said. i put my head down and after a couple laps and i didn't see him at all. finish 4th place. fastest lap 1:31 overall, this was the best time i had on a motorcycle since i took Apollonia to Lake Minnetonka i'm sure i could've dipped into the mid 1:29's if i would've done the sat practice/races. there's no substitute for seat time and not riding on Sat killed my momentum. next race July 9th at Buttonwillow with WERA ... i can't wait either

How fun was it to have those expert guys passing you like your standing still. Thats what I loved about road racing.

it was really no different than a trackday in the expert group. i got passed by one expert on the final lap. he was a good 4-5ft next to me so it was very safe. i didn't get buzzed once.
