this was a last minute decision. i was really there to pit bitch for my friends LG and Brian. the smell of the race fuel on fri/sat must've got me going because by 4:30p my mind was made up to race on sun. my bike has been apart because i repainted it. i've been so busy painting other peoples bikes that i never put mine back together. i still have to color sand and polish it. no excuses, let's go racing! went home and had it together by 5:45p and everything loaded in my truck by 6p. i could barely sleep too! sunday, 1st practice session, 15 mins: i wasn't really expecting anything because i haven't raced or even even ridden a trackday since Memorial Day weekend. ended up 3 secs off my best race lap. ok, not bad for almost 4 months off. 2nd practice, 15 mins: i'm feeling relaxed. this is the last practice session before my first race. got maybe 5 laps into it before the red flag came out, someone tossed their bike and that ended the session. still got within a sec of my best lap and i wasn't even warmed up yet. race #3, heavyweight supersport (ex & am), 8 laps: gridded dead last. there's 8 or 9 novice racers total. i'm still a provisional so as long as i finish the race/weekend without crashing then i'm happy. we line up and i get another classic bad start so i'm dead last going into turn one. i took the first lap to get settled in and started moving up in the field. by lap 4 i'm in 5th place. the guy i'm chasing down is on a cbr 600rr. i diced with him during my first race weekend in May but he was on old gsxr 750 then. this new 600 he's on can move. i ended up right on his tail heading onto the front straight and late braked him going into T1. once i passed him i tried to click off some smooth laps and never saw him again. finished 4th. beat my prev best race lap by over 2 secs. race #12, heavyweight superbike (ex & am), 8 laps: i got a better start but the race positions were fixed going into T1. no one passed me and i didn't pass anyone the entire race. i was all alone by the 2nd or 3rd lap, finished 5th. overall it was a fun day. i completed my 2nd race weekend and am no longer a provisional novice. i know that i can do alot faster times with less effort once i get the stock suspension off and get some real goodies this winter. LG noticed before the race that i was the only one running stock suspension. i have to get better with my starts too. i can run with the faster guys if i can be there with them at the begining of the race. next race Nov 11-12 at LVMS with WERA.

Ali if I had know you were racing, I would have come out too. I spent a good part of the previous day helping you and Jeff in the pits, I could have easily supported you too. I think Brad is gonna run that race next month too. I'm gonna come out and pit beeyach for him again so I'll see ya there. You doin the track day the day before the race?
