Race tires...track use...how many miles do you get out of them? What kind of tires were they?

1K miles and my old Dunlop 208GPs still have some decent tread left. But I wouldn't take them out again just due to their age. (it's been two years since my last track day)

Going on 3 with Pilot Race H2's. They don't make 'em anymore so that probably doesn't help...

I never keep track of miles on my trackday tires. I will use them no more than 3 trackdays... If the 3 are broken up into sessions. On an open track trackday, I will only use those once..

Ditto for me too. But I really need to do my front springs before I'm going to drag the Fizzy out to the track again.

U prolly already know that this is a highly subjective question with answers depending on a number of factors, for eg.,

1. which track are u running at? In and around vegas, I have noticed that Pahrump is a little more punishing on the tires than LVMS.
2. Are u using tire warmers? I have noticed that tire warmers help increase the life of my tires by reducing the number of heat cycles, bringing the tires to the optimum (close enough) temp and those nasty cold tears.
3. What kind of a bike u run. Some bikes/bike settings exert more demand on the tires than others.
4. Your skill level. As u must have already gathered some people go thru tires in a day while others might get a little more use out of them. If u are really aggressive the story might be different for u.

I am currently running Pilot H2 on my track bike and I already have 3 trackdays on them. One in Pahrump and 2 at LVMS. The closer the trackdays are to each other the more aggressive I get. I think I can use mine for another 2 trackdays.
Before that I was running the Dunlop 208GPs and they would last me a good 4-5 trackdays as well. I usually consulted Jim Cox of Dunlop at the track to make sure that I was reading the condition of the tires properly.

Hope this helps...

Less than 50 miles . Usually i got 3 to 4, 7 to 10 lap sprints on a set of tires. My tire bill sucked , now for trackdays i could easily get 100 miles on a set. Tey just didnt stick very well after the first couple sessions.

Greggie would do a half of a track day to scrub tires in, then race on them, that was it, then change, talk about tire bill racers edge loved us. PM Greggie if you would like good used race tires
