For those of you who have not attended a trackday before, but want to: I highly recommend doing a Calsportbike event as your first. The owner, Todd, is an excellent instuctor with very friendly and approchable staff instructors. I swear, you will learn more in one day of Todd's school then you have learned in years of street riding. Everything you learn on the track is applicable to the street. And for those who think your not ready to ride on a track or who are too nervous. Don't be, nobody will make you do anythink you are not comfortable with.

If you don't mind, I'd like to ask a couple questions... I imagine that riders at these events vary quite a bit in skill level. I have over 25 years of riding experience, but only a few years of street experience andzero actual track experience. What was your experience at Calsportbike? What can I expect from a Level 1 class? Can one day make a real difference in skill capabilities for an average to above average rider? Thanks a lot for your input!

DBONiX, You are correct about the different skill levels at the trackday events.* It can very from pro racers like Jason DeSalvo (who would obviously only run in the advanced group) to the slowest of slow riders (names withheld to protect the guilty!* ).* Nevertheless, they are out there riding, having fun and being safe.* And having safe fun is what this is all about for all ages.My first trackday ever was with Calsportbikes and it was better then I had ever imagined.* Todd himself took the time after one of the classes to come to my pits and personally instruct me on my bike on proper body positioning.* Throughout the weekend I saw Todd and many of his instructors doing the same for other first-time riders.* *Unlike many other organizers, Calsportbike instructors are not there for the free track time, they are there for the customer (you).* They run a safe track and do not tolorate horseplay. Your first Calsportbike trackday will consist of classroom time followed up by track time.* Then, after every session, you are back in the classroom for more instruction. They are changing the format this year so there will be some changes.* However, in the classes they teach about track safety, meanings of corner worker flags, proper lines, markers, entrances, apex, exits, breaking, proper use of throttle, hand/finger/arm positioning, foot positioning and body position.* I'm sure I left a few topics out. One of the other big advantages is that you can ask questions.* If you are like I was, you can ask any one of the instructors that question that you have always wanted to ask but never had the right person to ask.* You just may find the answer to that technical question that you have always been looking for.* On my second track day, it was like flipping on a light switch and everything started to come together. Also of interest, is the fact that my wife, Gixxergirl (mother of my four kids, ages 10 to 3) also rides with Calsportbikes (and yes the rumor is true, she did get her knee down before I did!* ).* I mention this only because if you think that riding on a track is unsafe, you have not fully educated yourself.* Trust me, if I didn't feel comfortable with the Calsportbike events, my wife would not be out there on her GSXR600.If you need any help preping your bike for the track or want to throw it on our trailer and ride with us to the track it would be our pleasure.* I have all the tools we need to work on the bikes and I would be happy to help in any way.* It helps when you have someone else to go with on your first event.* There's no excuse for hanging in the pits all alone.* PM me if I can help.

That said, I know it's one of those things where you get out of it what you put into it. Other than what I've read on the Calsportbikes site, I know NOTHING about bike prep and would like nothing more than to take you up on your offer to help. Will you be going to Rubios tomorrow night?

My kids have Karate Tuesday and Thursday nights so I can't make it tomorrow.* I am selling my 03 GSXR-1000 on Wednesday (hopefully) and will be purchasing a friends 04 GSXR-750 Wednesday night.* I am downsizing for the 2006 season.* In the hopes of learning more at the track on a smaller bike.* What part of town do you live on? If you are ever near Craig and Commerce in North Las Vegas, stop by.

Maybe we could do some sort of SCS bike prep on like Thur (and Fri night if we don't finish) night prior to the track day on March 18th? This way we can show newer track riders the steps to prepping their bike for the next day's event and such. Just a thought. Maybe if someone has a street bike they can get ready for the track a week ahead, we could hold the event the weekend prior (as long as they don't need their bike for that next week or don't mind switching back to street and then back to track later that week). Just a thought I guess. Just trying to figure a way to help everyone out that wants to learn.

That's not a bad idea. I have a three car garage that we can use to prep the bikes in. And folks could leave them there overnight so they're safe and ready for the track. The LVMS is only 15 minutes from my house. If it works for others, I think a Thursday would be better. That way, if someone needs parts, tires or something else they will have time on Friday to get them.

Sounds like a plan to me. I'd be happy to drop by to help prep the bikes and such. Maybe we ought to start a thread in the "whats happening" section so even people that aren't riding the track that weekend can still come and enjoy and learn something...what do ya think?
