A Mod want to make this a sticky?

I know there are plenty of people out there who do, or have been interested in, track days.

Most are intimidated by the prospect and don't know what they NEED and what they should bring.

I've done track days in cars for years... but motorbikes are on a different level.

So, what is the basic track day kit?

Things that save a trip to the store:
- water
- extra oil
- zip ties
- racer tape
- extra bolts/fasteners
- drinks

Things that allow you to race:
- helmet
- gloves
- full leathers? (not sure if this is mandatory for every group)
- boots

Things that make life easier when you're not on track:
- Chair
- Tent

Anything else?

Good thread! I like these items as well:

- Cold drinking water/non-caffienated sports drinks
- trail mix or some other high-energy snack
- A good tire pressure gauge
- back protector (some organizations require this)
- a basic tool kit tailored to your particular bike's needs
- camera
- notepad and pen/pencil to jot down suspension changes, etc...

fyi..in the rare event full leathers aren't mandatory for a beginner group, I'd make sure to get some prior to doing a track day anyway.

Not usually. There's usually a tire changing service at the track, but you want to show up with fresh rubber from the start. If you damage a wheel, most likely you have a wadded-up bike.

I have found a definite need for these:
something heavy to help hold down the E-Z UP
Energy Drink(s)
Contact Lense rewetting drops
sunglasses
maintenance stands
sunblock
chewing gum (can't escape that after lunch bad breath in the helmet)

The weights for the Ez-Up ain't no joke. I remember one time out at Pahrump a gust of wind came up flipped some dudes Ez-Up over even though he had it tied down to a big cooler full of bottled water & ice. It launched dudes cooler in the air like a medieval trebuchet. The cooler got about 20ft of air and landed 40ft away destroying the cooler and yard-saled the contents scattering bottles of water & ice all over the paddock. Funny shizzle.

Which reminds me that I have a really nice 10x20 tent / cover. It's not an EZ up, it uses steel poles and is complete with optional walls, and doors. It doesn't require tools, but it takes about 4 people maybe 20 minutes to assemble. It's totally worth it if you are going to spend the day at the track. Let me know if anyone ever wants to borrow it.
