Greetings, We're expecting to have a great event! Here are some last minute reminders for this weekend's event at Spring Mountain/Pahrump... WEATHER Well it looks like a gorgeous weekend! The latest forecast calls for temps around 71 degrees (overnight lows around 45 degrees)! And even though it will be pretty nice as the day warms up, remember to take the first couple laps to get your tires warmed up since the track temp is going to be lower during the first AM session! AVOID COLD TIRE CRASHES! BIKE KEY Before leaving for the track, put your bike's ignition key on your tow vehicle's keychain. Nothing is worse than missing your first 3 sessions while a local locksmith charges you $100 and takes 2-3 hours to make you a new key for your bike. TIRE PRESSURE With some of the newer race tires on the market pressures will vary dramatically. However you are VERY unlikely to run higher "street" pressures for a track day with positive results. For most production street tires and the DOT race tires from Dunlop, Metzeler, and Pirelli, we suggest 31-32 psi front and 29-30 psi rear (yes, less in the rear) for track use. For the new Michelin Power Race and race PR tires we suggest 30 front and 23 rear (yes, we mean 23). For Pilot Powers we suggest 32 front and rear. PHYSICAL PREPARATION While you can ride while physically tired, being able to stay mentally focused on the racetrack is critical to your survival. I encourage you to eat a good dinner and get plenty of sleep. When you wake up in the morning, do a couple stretches before leaving your hotel room. Remember, you are going to be getting a workout on the track...be limber and ready for it! You've all heard track day providers preach about staying well hydrated. But it's important to remember that good hydration starts THE NIGHT BEFORE the event..and that alcohol, coffee, tea, and sodas can all dehydrate you. I suggest that you LIMIT alcohol any night before a track day and have a LOT of water along with any alcohol consumption. We will provide waters and gatorades for you at the track, so make sure you use it! Our staff will have these in coolers near the grid area, so take advantage of it! (Sorry, the water girls are playing for their soccer teams this weekend and needed to make playoffs!) MENTAL PREPARATION The most important thing for you racers and advanced riders is to put in more seat miles and slowly chip away at your lap times. For intermediate and novice riders, your focus needs to be on building your skills and not riding over your head. Become a smoother and more skilled rider and your speeds will improve as a by-product. Remember, it's going to be warm from 11-2 or so. Be sure you remain focused on your riding. If you get fuzzy, do yourself and everyone else on the track a favor and take a session to recuperate in your pits. With 30 minute sessions, you're getting a LOT of track time. PACE YOURSELF! ADDITIONAL SERVICES Tire Service: We have in-house tire service for this event with trackside pricing and mounting/balancing (off the bike). If you want to plan a late afternoon tire purchase/change, you will want to speak to them in the morning to prepay for the set so you're sure to get what you need. We are not some big tire vendor, so supplies are limited. But we try to bring out a mix of DOT race tires and "track/street" tires for you to have available for purchase. Fuel: Fill your cans before coming to the track, as there will not be fuel at the track. The closest gas station is a few miles north of the track on the highway. Fuel cans MUST BE KEPT at the concrete pad near the flagpole, and you may ONLY fill your tanks in this area. Photography: Mike La Putt from Trackday.net will again be with us providing his excellent photographic services. See him as the day progresses to preview your shots! Suspension Tuning: James Morse and Tige Daane will again be with us to provide suspension setup and tuning services. Riding a showroom-stock suspenion? Ack! Come see the suspension guys and dial in the bike for YOU. Chat with them about pricing and time slots to work with you to get your bike set up right! Videography: Tom Davlantis will be on hand with his video equipment. See him at the grid area to arrange a video session to gauge your progress or take home a souvenir video. SCHEDULE ***DO NOT CROWD THE ENTRY AREA AND BLOCK OUR STAFF FROM ENTERING THE TRACK!!! If you must get to the track early, either park along the highway (facing NORTH) away from the gate or down the highway slightly please. Our staff is arriving at 7AM to set up. We ask that you arrive after 7:15AM so that we may position our trailers, tire service, and canopies around the grid entry area at TURN 9. DO NOT pit along the front dirt area and wall near the hot pit entry. This lane must be kept clear for the riders, crash truck, and ambulance access. 7:15AM Arrival time opens 7:45AM Registration and tech inspection open 7:45-8:25AM Cont breakfast items available 8:25AM Registration and tech close 8:25AM MANDATORY RIDERS MEETING AT RIGHT SIDE WHITE BUILDING 9:00AM Track goes hot: A group on course (Rotates A/B in 30 min sessions) 12:00PM Catered Subway lunch in right side building (BRING MEAL TICKET) 12:40PM Track drive/talk in crash trailer 1:00PM Rotations commence 4:30PM Track closed 5:30PM Riders must be off the premises * NOTE: Late arrivals must wait until 10:30AM for tech and briefing! We look forward to having you ride with us!

I would love to come out and play both days this weekend, but I'm coaching one of my daughters' soccer teams and we're undefeated and headed for playoffs, and I need to be there. But for 11/12-13 we're just in a tournament so I can let my asst coach run the team. :)

Todd...I'm looking forward to riding with your organization on 11/12 at the LVMS Classic course. I was wondering if you know if the "suspension guys" will be out at that track day? I'd really like to get my suspension adjusted as close as I can because right now I set it all back to stock to try and keep it "balanced", but I'm sure it's not correct. LOL Thanks! Mat

Mat, I will talk to them this weekend to confirm, but I believe they are going to join us 11/12-13, yes. Their prices are very low and it sure makes a huge difference to have a suspension dialed in right. :)

Cool...if you could post up when you find out, it will be greatly appreciated. Hey, is it possible to still get the "track day" setup prices if I just come out to Pahrump this weekend? Maybe I'll hook up with Josh and ride out there with him or something since he's going out there anyway. This way it would be done and I could even get used to it prior to my trackday weekend... Just figured I'd ask. LOL

I see no reason why a member from this group could not have our guys service you on the spot at Pahrump. As long as you can be a little patient if they're working with one of the registered riders until they have an opening for you, sure. :)

Oh, I FULLY understand that the track day participants come first. I'd expect that. Well, then I'll probably shoot out there then cuz I'd really like to get it done and over with (at least have the sag set, so I'll know not to mess with it any more. LOL). Then I'll just get used to the bike "how it is" so to speak. Thanks for your time.

James Morse and Tige Daane are very helpful. Sag is first, but you can also have them look at your other settings...it's just harder to "real world test" those settings without jumping out on the track for a few laps. Anyhow, we welcome any SCS members who come to hang out for whatever reason. We're a friendly bunch. :)

Saturday or Sunday? I want to go to the charity thing, on Sunday, for the VP of Ruff Riderz first. I have never been to the track in Pahrump and would love to check it out.

I believe Josh is going on Sun to my knowledge. I'll probably be tagging along as well to get my suspension done (and hang out and chat with everyone too, of course). Only bad thing is I really should ride up there in my full leathers and boots and all that happy stuff to do the suspension right. Pretty hot to just sit there in that stuff, so I'll see what happens. I would hope my sag wouldn't be tooooooo far off if I wore jeans instead of my leather pants (and they don't match, so that's even more embarassing. LOL!!!!!)

Mat I am riding in my leathers, not hot at all. Pat we ride on Sunday

Well, I guess I'll do it then. I'll look like I did in Utah, but hey....gotta do what I've gotta do. LOL That is unless I can scam the full leathers from Dave tonight and he doesn't mind me holding onto them until the 12th. If that's the case, then I'll get them sometime today and wear those tomorrow.
| |

Did you use Daves leathers in Utah?
__________________ Josh 2004 ZX-10R Street bike liberalism is a mental disorder

No..in Utah those were a mix of my leathers that I own. I have a 2 pc Teknic leather suit I bought to do the track when I had my R1...but I can't fit my fat azz into the jacket now (but the pants were loose back then, so they still fit now)...so I have to wear my Joe Rocket jacket that I bought when I first bought a bike a long while ago (and it was way too big at the time, but it was better than no jacket at all - that's why I can still fit into it. LOL). Unfortunately the Teknic pants & JR jacket don't zip together (the zippers go opposite ways), so I can't use them on the track. Dave offered to let me borrow his leathers so I could do the track day on the 12th. Those are the ones I'm going to use for the track day, but I'm not planning on picking them up from Dave until the night prior to the trackday on the 12th. So, I'll have to wear my "mis matched" leathers up to the track tomorrow to get the suspension done. (same ones in Utah) Looks stupid, but I guess it'll get the job done.
